Dr. Octojoculus steps forward with his first CD release. "SPLEEN"
finds Doc showing a side of his schizophrenic musical personality that
is slick yet bent. The monstrous "MO FAT" anchors a wild ride of big beats
and heavy guitars, psychedelic soundscapes and half baked rants. We like
it--if you know what's good for you, you will too.
- Mo Fat (4:40)
- True Story (3:50)
- Jailhouse Doc (3:12)
- Broomchant (4:04)
- Another TV Song (3:43)
- Funk12 (3:23)

"Street wise Dr.
Oct will not shit you..the beats on this CD are like a lethal mixture
of homebrew, you don't know really what's in it, but it kicks and after
a few hits the head trip starts to set in. Dr. Oct leaves out the gangsta
rap crap and just lays low with minimal, yet ample orchestration glued
together with creative guitar via John DeBorde & R.B. Fluke, and
Dr. Oct's own words of wisdom...while his singing ain't pretty (imagine
Seal via Snoop Dog on a mix of nitrous n meth), nonetheless the message
comes across clear, as a people mankind is funked!! As you listen through
Spleen, one minute you're in a psychedelic circus, the next minute at
the local poetry corner gettin hit on by the local crack 'ho (we used
to have one of those here in Atlanta down on Ponce, but I think the
cops got wise...I'm talkin' the poetry corner, we've still got PLENTY
of crack fairies). A couple of the tunes on Spleen could be pumped up
a little more...but the #10 cut High St. is an underground industrial
gem with a freak show interlude that sounds like a typewriter on a mass
murder suicide run...then at the song's end a gunshot rings out...fitting.....The
next song Arabia, features backing vocals by Rachel Gregory (who does
them throughout the CD), and has an almost European feel..but hey, this
is Dr. Octojoculus, and he could just about be anywhere, at anytime,
whadda expect, it's Californian!!..." -- Underground Sound, 2/2/96
"Hop aboard Mr. Toad's wild ride, hijacked
today by one
Dr. Octojoculus, aka Gary Gray, for a fun filled, yet
unpredictable adventure entitled "Spleen". Expect the
unexpected as Dr. O shifts from the big-beat, guitar
laced hip hop opening cut "Mo Fat", to the made-for-
dance-club "True Story", the the electronic techno
sounds of "Another TV Song", with some Zappa-like
satirical TV announcer spoofs thrown in.
Like a kid OD'ing on the M&M jar, the good Dr. changes
gears on almost every song. There are frenzied guitar
licks on "Funk 12", and killer beats with ferocious
sampling on "High St."
Look for Dr. Octojoculus touring this fall with his
band Shellhead Mutants.
Top Cuts: True Story, Mo Fat, Arabia."-- Internet Music Reviews,
